چکیده

The crude glycerol produced as a byproduct of transesterification synthesis has very few applications because it comprises significant amounts methanol, catalyst, and soap. On the other hand, transesterifications highly acidic oil in presence an alkaline catalyst are problematic due to high free fatty acids. In this study, acid level oil, which was initially determined be 19.25%, decreased permit direct production biodiesel via glycerolysis with pure glycerol, making feasible. Through process purification, refined 92.5% purity. It revealed that physiochemical parameters density, moisture content, ash matter organic non-glycerol pH, Na/K concentrations generated purified equal those commercially available glycerol. contrast, treatment successfully less than 2% under optimal conditions, were 200 °C, glycerol-to-oil molar ratio 4:1, KOH concentration 1.6 wt.% at 350 rpm. inclusion hexane co-solvent accelerated process, weight oil-to-hexane 8:1. Moreover, viable use waste methanol for raw material variety industries, including production. addition, compared esterification, FFA value fell significantly.

Waste Cooking Oil as an Alternate Feedstock for Biodiesel Production

As crude oil price reach a new high, the need for developing alternate fuels has become acute. Alternate fuels should be economically attractive in order to compete with currently used fossil fuels. In this work, biodiesel (ethyl ester) was prepared from waste cooking oil collected from a local restaurant in Halifax, Nova Scotia, Canada. Ethyl alcohol with sodium hydroxide as a catalyst was use...

A Two-step Catalytic Production of Biodiesel from Waste Cooking Oil

Waste cooking oil (WCO) was used as a potential feedstock for biodiesel production. High levels of free fatty acids (9.85% w/w) in WCO made it an undesirable substrate for direct transesterification reaction. To solve this issue, a two-step process was implemented in this research. Firstly, esterification reaction was performed in presence of sulfuric acid as a common acid catalyst to reduce th...

Microbial Conversion of Waste Glycerol from Biodiesel Production into Value-Added Products

Biodiesel has gained a significant amount of attention over the past decade as an environmentally friendly fuel that is capable of being utilized by a conventional diesel engine. However, the biodiesel production process generates glycerol-containing waste streams which have become a disposal issue for biodiesel plants and generated a surplus of glycerol. A value-added opportunity is needed in ...
